Cleaning Mistakes that Cost Your Company

money that companies throw away on cleaning mistakesThe goal of every company is too keep costs down; it’s counterproductive to run a company and incur extra costs. However, that’s exactly what happens when facility and maintenance managers procrastinate on certain cleaning tasks—tasks that should be helping make money, not costing more in the long run.

Waiting too long to clean your floor

Scheduling a deep clean for your facility or office floor has a lot of benefits, such as increasing productivity and decreasing the amount of employee injuries. There are challenges that come with a deep floor clean as well; it’s hard to find a convenient time when staffing is low and an employee is available.

If those two obstacles delay a deep floor clean, the cost of the next floor clean can be significantly more in the past. Build-up over time can require more time, a stronger product, and intensive effort to get the floor back to its original cleanliness.

Avoiding a deep office and kitchen clean

Office spaces, kitchens, and restrooms are a magnet for dust and bacteria. Waiting too long to remove that build-up can expose employees to allergy problems, respiratory issues, and numerous illnesses. The result is a drop in productivity as staff members work while ill or take days off to deal with health issues.

Not maintaining your exterior

It’s no secret that driveways, sidewalks, roofs, and buildings can cause long-term damage if not maintained. Driveways can break down if not sealed, roofs can leak…the list of issues can go on and on. It makes cents—literally—to allocate employees for exterior maintenance or to contact a vendor that can keep up with the exterior of your company. If you want to consolidate vendors and contacts, contract with a company that can maintain the interior and exterior of any building.

Procrastinating on evaluating your staff vs. outsource costs

A full evaluation of your costs can seem like an extra chore at the end of a long list; however, determining whether using staff for cleaning versus outsourcing can have benefits that pay off in the long run. From time to time, evaluate whether you need full-time staffing for your cleaning and building maintenance needs or whether it costs less to outsource. Factor in staff availability, cost of salary and benefits, and all your building and facility needs to determine what the best answer—and cost—is for your company.
